Connecting
Modifying a 3 1/2" drive power cable for use with a Matrix Orbital Display Module.
Below
are before and after pictures for what your connector should look
like in order to power either the regular
or the wide voltage (-V option) versions of the module. Please make
sure that the proper configuration is used for your display
(refer to the table below). If there is any question of which type
of module you have, it may be
confirmed by looking for a fairly large black device mounted
near the power connector (4 pin SIP) on the board. If this device is
about 1 cm with two metal legs and a tab, and contains the printed
letters "78MO5" on it, then you have a wide voltage module.
WARNING: DO
NOT connect the module until the following modifications are
made! Unless you have the GLK12232-25-WBL or GLK12232-25-SM
or ANY USB model. These units DO NOT require a modified power cable.
-
Using a sharp tool, push the small tab on the metal pin on each wire
you need to move and gently pull on the wire. The wire and
pin should slide out of the connector easily.
-
Now bend the tab back out slightly and insert the
wire back into its new location.
-
Any unused wires should be cut off and the end taped with
a small piece of electrical tape to ensure that it will not touch
anything and cause damage. Note that both middle (black) wires are
the same and it does not matter which one is used.
-
Turn on machine.
-
Smile as you see the display tell you what BIOS version it has (or
in the case of newer modules, a blinking cursor will appear).
