Quick Introduction
I've been with Matrix Orbital since May of 2003. I got pulled in by
Henry, whom I worked with at a previous job and had become best friends
with. We've always been able to work together without stepping on each
others toes. It is a very unique relationship to say the least.
Back in the beginning Rob Hansen, one of the founders of the company,
was doing all the design work and programming. I started by taking on
the code, and later took over designing the circuits and PCBs as well.
Later that became too much for me so we brought on Raquel to help me
out. It's been much better ever since then.
As for myself, I was born in Cambridge Ontario, and lived in several
places including Minnesota and the Toronto region. When I
graduated high school in a town just east of Toronto called Whitby, I
wanted a change. So when University of Calgary offered me a
position, I accepted.
Responsibilities
My primary responsibility around here is keep research and development
on track. As well we are always looking to improve our products,
making them more robust and easier to use. Over the last two years our Engineering department has expanded quite a bit. Raquel is maintaining the firmware, Brian is doing a lot of hardware design, Troy is keeping technical support and documentation together, and Ray is developing exciting new software.
The other side of my job is to administrate the networks around
here. Our policy is that if we can find an open
source software solution for the job, we will use it. To that end we exclusively use Gentoo Linux for all of
our servers, and Firefox, Thunderbird and Open Office for all of our day
to day office chores.
